This is a repost of an article from last year and deals with power outages. After the heavy snow and ice around the Sapphire Valley area, the power went out late Friday night. My main APC UPS backup beeped loudly and given the snow outside, I knew the power would probably not be back for some time.

The Highlands-Cashiers-Sapphire Valley area had wide spread power outages with Duke Power stating it may take over 4 days to recover. Although only a generator can get you through several days, a  good UPS system can give you time to shut down your PC without risk of data loss. I even have one on my TV to reduce the bumps with the power grid bounces up and down, and then down!
